Standard Eligibility Criteria For Tribal Positions

Employment eligibility criteria for most positions with the Bishop Paiute Tribe includes; Criminal Background Checks and Clearance, Valid Driver’s License and Insurability with the Bishop Paiute Tribe’s Insurance. Submit and pass a Pre-Employment Drug Screen. Additional requirements may apply to specific positions in accordance with applicable Laws, Regulations, and Funding Agency requirements and may include; Education Verification, Individual Credit Checks, TB Test, Physical Examinations, Fit-For-Duty Tests, etc. Employment Applications must be completed in full and submitted by the deadline date with appropriate documentation in order to be considered for the position.

Indian Preference: Native American Indian preference shall apply pursuant to the prevailing Bishop Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance and the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (24 U.S.C. 450, et seq,) 25 CFR 271.44 and other relevant laws.

Department: Finance

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) oversees the accounting operations of the Bishop Paiute Tribe including the day-to-day supervision of fiscal department staff. The CFO will help to set the Tribe’s financial policy and direction while also being an active participant in the development of the Tribe’s overall organizational strategy. The CFO will lead all financial administration and budgeting. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will work closely with other tribal executive officers to plan and achieve the mission and goals established by the Bishop Paiute Tribal Council. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Controller – E6 – $78,705–$110,187 Salary DOQ

Department: Fiscal Department

This is a hands-on position providing support to the fiscal department staff consisting of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general accounting, and grants reporting. The Controller will take an active role in daily and monthly accounting transactions and will manage the General Ledger ensuring the accuracy of postings by performing and supervising reconciliations on a regular basis. This position will be responsible for the preparation and analysis of system generated and Excel-based financial reports on an as needed basis for department managers, executive staff, Tribal Council, and outside agencies. The Controller will perform internal audits to provide assurance that risk management, governance and internal control processes are operating effectively and have an active role in the annual audit.

Grant Manager – E6 – $78,705–$110,187 Salary DOQ

Department: Fiscal Department

The Grant Manager/Writer is responsible for researching, developing, writing, coordinating, and managing grant opportunities that support the programs, services, and strategic initiatives of the Bishop Paiute Tribe. This position works closely with Tribal leadership, departments, and external agencies to secure funding opportunities and ensure compliance with grant requirements, reporting obligations, and program objectives.

The Grant Manager/Writer plays a critical role in supporting Tribal sovereignty, economic development, infrastructure improvement, education, health, cultural preservation, public safety, housing, and community wellness initiatives through effective grant acquisition and administration.

The Social Services Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, administration, and management of the Tribe’s Social Services programs, including but not limited to the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), Relief After Violent Encounters (RAVE), Housing Programs, and other culturally relevant support services. The Director ensures that programs operate in compliance with tribal, state, and federal regulations while maintaining a strong focus on cultural values, self-sufficiency, family preservation, and community wellness.

The Administrative Receptionist is an important function in the image of the Tribal Organization; they will be the first point of contact for any person who reaches the Tribal Office either by phone or in person. The Administrative Receptionist will be responsible for performing receptionist and administrative duties at the Tribal Offices. As the first point of contact for the Tribal Offices, the Administrative Receptionist will display a high degree of poise and professionalism; and will become familiar in using the Paiute Language upon greetings.

The Housing Management Officer (HMO) manages the rental program and home-ownership homes within the jurisdiction of the Community Development Department (CDD). This is a paid internship to obtain on-the-job skills and training as well as traditional knowledge and skills for young adults between 16 and 29 with career goals in the fields of natural and cultural resource management. The Van Driver/Prep Cook is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of food to the meal sites. The primary job duty of this position is the loading and unloading of cold packs, other food items and supplies daily from the Elder’s kitchen to Homebound Elder’s within the Bishop Paiute Tribal community. Help the kitchen staff prepare the meals for delivery and deliver the meals to the Elders. They also assist with kitchen maintenance duties before and after meal delivery.
